NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Jude Deveraux, the bestselling author of unforgettable romance, returns with a breathtaking first book in a fantastic new series—the Nantucket Brides trilogy. Set on the magical Massachusetts island, True Love introduces characters from a new generation of Montgomery-Taggerts, the beloved family from Deveraux’s classic novels.
Just as Alix Madsen is finishing up architectural school, Adelaide Kingsley dies and wills her, for one year, the use of a charming nineteenth-century Nantucket house. The elderly woman’s relationship to the Madsen family is a mystery to the spirited Alix—fresh from a romantic breakup—but for reasons of her own Alix accepts the quirky bequest, in part because it gives her time to plan her best friend’s storybook wedding.
But unseen forces move behind the scenes, creaking Kingsley House’s ancient floorboards. It seems that Adelaide Kingsley had a rather specific task for Alix: to solve the strange disappearance of one of the Kingsley women, Valentina, more than two hundred years ago. If that wasn’t troubling enough, Alix must deal with the arrogant (and extremely good-looking) architect Jared Montgomery, who is living in the property’s guesthouse.
Unbeknown to Alix, Jared has been charged with looking after her while she lives on the island—an easy task for him, considering the undeniable chemistry between the two. But Jared harbors secrets of his own, which, if revealed, may drive a wedge between the pair.
With a glorious Nantucket wedding on the horizon, sparks fly, and the ghosts of the past begin to reveal themselves—some of them literally. Finding their lives inextricably entwined with the turbulent fortunes of their ancestors, Alix and Jared discover that only by righting the wrongs of the past can they hope to be together.
BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Jude Deveraux's For All Time.

Guest Review of “True Love” by Jude Deveraux
By Susan Wiggs
Susan Wiggs lives at the water's edge on a Puget Sound island and finds inspiration in the rhythm of the seasons, and in emotional dramas of everyday life. A No. 1 New York Times best-selling author, she has received three RITA Awards, and her novels have been translated into more than two dozen languages.
Oh, Jude, you had me at “Nantucket.” I happen to love islands. I live on one, I’ve visited many, but Nantucket holds a special place in my heart. True Love, with its star-crossed lovers and twisty plot, evokes everything that makes Nantucket so special–the history, the atmosphere, the secrets and the magic.
And Jude Deveraux, author of fan favorites like A Knight in Shining Armor, Remembrance, Sweet Liar and so many others, does the setting justice in this tale of a mismatched couple, a hunt for a lost family journal and ghosts that haunt a historic mansion. The combination is hard to resist, particularly in the hands of this author. Talented architect Jared Kingsley Montgomery (yes, those Montgomerys, be still my heart)--a hero from a long line of smart, sexy and soft-hearted Montgomery men--braces himself for the arrival of Alix Madsen, who has been bequeathed Jared’s ancestral mansion for a period of one year. The surprises begin in the prologue--when we realize Jared’s conversation with the 30-something Caleb is actually with a ghost, one who yearns for answers and closure.
Alix, still smarting from a broken heart, is in need of a change, though the last thing she’s looking for is romance. She’s content in the role of planning her best friend’s wedding, until she meets Jared. She also has a gift for sensing the presence of ghosts, and is specifically charged with figuring out what became of Caleb Kingsley and the mysterious Valentina, a long-lost Montgomery relative. In the process, she unravels the secrets of her own family, finding a deeper understanding of her mother.
Jared, a commitment-phobe who claims he might find the Evil Queen more interesting than Cinderella, can’t deny his sizzling chemistry with Alix. The result is as romantic and mysterious as falling in love.
Longtime fans will appreciate the shout-outs to Montgomery and Taggert characters from past books, and new readers will celebrate the launch of this fresh, fun trilogy of Nantucket stories. Following the happily-every-after ending is even happier news–there's more to come.
From Booklist
Best-selling romance author Deveraux is at her spellbinding romantic finest as she launches the brand-new Nantucket Brides series. The story follows young Alix Madsen, a brokenhearted architect student, who unexpectedly becomes the owner of a quaint little Nantucket property. Adelaide Kingsley has left the home to Madsen in her will, but who Kingsley is and what her relationship is to the family remains in question. While Alix moves in and gets busy planning her best friend’s wedding, she starts falling for the charming architect living in the guest house. But even with all the romance in the air, she becomes aware that Kingsley left the house to Alix in order to help solve an old family mystery. Throughout the novel, secrets slowly emerge within the house and among Deveraux’s characters, inducing Alix to question everything and everyone she knows, including her new love interest. Readers will be eager for the next installment. --Carissa Chesanek

If you liked Sweet Liar, you should love this book
By mickey71
I'm a Jude fan from waaaaaay back. I loved many of her books, and some I didn't. I think this one is a winner, and NOT just because we get reintroduced to the Montgomery-Taggert clans, although they are very welcome.
There are elements of Sweet Liar, Remembrance, and Lavender Morning to this book, supernatural elements included. Female protagonist Alix is to spend a year in a house on Nantucket with Jared Montgomery Kingsley, a world-famous architect. Alix is a just-graduated architect herself, so Kingsley is her hero. She doesn't realize that she's been to this house before. She's met Jared before, and her own parents have spent tons of time there without her.
Jared doesn't want to be a hero; he just wants to be "a guy." Let me add here that Jared doesn't know he's one of THOSE Montgomerys, and doesn't meet his extended family for the first time until halfway through the book. He's much more concerned with the Kingsley side of the family, which includes a ghost, a legacy, and a mystery.
Don't laugh, but one of the most important characters in this book is...Nantucket. Yes, Nantucket takes on a life of its own, and you FEEL as though you're there. I was only there once in my life when I was too young to appreciate it, but I certainly feel now as though I'm familiar with it! Note: If you're driven to go there for Downyflake donuts, bring cash because they don't accept credit cards. (But there's a cash machine on the premises.)
As far as Montgomerys and Taggerts, you get to see a Taggert who I thought was getting her own book long, long ago; visit with Mike and Kane Taggert and their wives (I can't believe those guys are in their 50s now--time does fly!); and hobnob with the royal family of Lanconia.
BOTTOM LINE: Very happy with this first book of a new trilogy, and can't wait for book 2. Without giving too much away, one of the main characters is the descendent of some other beloved Jude couples, and "the one who can tell the twins apart" still runs in the family!

What's in a name?
By MollyCM
Apparently nothing! For those who have read Jude Deveraux's books from the beginning, "Montgomery" has been reduced to nothing but a last name.
After her last three books, all set in the psycho town of Edilean, a place full of lying, conniving, busybodies, I was excited to hear Ms. Deveraux was revisiting the Montgomery clan. I'm always up for a story involving the Montgomery/Taggert families. But the Edilean freaks have moved to Nantucket and call themselves Kingsley/Montgomery now.
I hate stories where the whole premise is based on lies. Where everyone is lying to the main character and when the truth comes out she just acquiesces and it's all good. First of all the lies being kept from the insipid Alix are ridiculous and make no sense. This brilliant, amazing "student of architecture" (this descriptor for Alix is repeated over and over) is going to fall apart when she finds out about these lightweight lies that will apparently rock her world (which they never really do). Cliché Romance Writing 101 here.
Let's throw in her awful, self-centered, manipulative mother, who the brain-dead Alix knows is self-centered and manipulative so she has always kept her mother in the dark about the boys she has dated...but when mom shows up, Alix lets herself be completely manipulated, treated like crap, talked down to, and then says don't I have the best mother ever?! What the what?!
The hero of this awful story is Jared Montgomery Kingsley, the most brilliant architect since Wright apparently. He walks on water...but that is all just a pedestal that the starry eyed public has thrust him upon, he really just wants to be his regular down-to-earth self and hangout on Nantucket with all of his friends/family...who look down on anyone not from Nantucket. If you are reader of Deveraux books, you know Montgomery men...Jared is NOT one! Not even close.
Oh and if it wasn't awful enough already, let's throw in a ghost whose been hanging around for 200 years that a select few people can talk to/see and a whole lot of past life spirits inhabiting these characters, that makes the story so convoluted Shirley McClain would have a hard time wading through who goes where. Then make the, interesting as a bowl of noodles, Alix, plan her neurotic, completely absent through the story, best friend's wedding...and add an appearance by Kane and Mike Taggert, the now older, hot twins of previous stories...for no other reason than to set up for one the next two planned stories in this series. Could there be more going on in this book with absolutely nothing really interesting ever happening?!
On top of all this, Ms. Deveraux does nothing for Nantucket tourism. Apparently everyone on Nantucket hates "off-islanders", resents the tourist season and thinks of themselves as their own sovereign island...not part of America, because they are better than everyone else.
I have been a loyal fan for 33 years...now I'm just disappointed and done. Want to read this author at her story telling best...try Holly, High Tide, An Angel for Emily...oh so many great titles come to mind...this is NOT one of them!

Love Story with a Ghost
By Jeanne Anderson
I have always loved the books of Jude Deveraux. She does a time travel love story better than anybody. This was not so much a time travel book as it was a book of reincarnation. Although I read through it quickly and it kept me interested, it wasn't nearly as good as many of her earlier books were.
It takes place on Nantucket Island and involves many, many people who seem to eat quite often. Alix is spending time in an old house for a year after graduation from college. She is a budding Architect who is taking a year off. Alix's mother asked her to stay at this house as a request from an old lady she befriended years earlier. Aunt "Addy" put in her will that she would like Alix to stay at the house and try to find out what happened to Valentina, a long ago relative that vanished.
Alix meets Jared Montgomery Kingsley while staying at this house. He is the very handsome man whose family is all over the island and Aunt "Addy" was his great aunt. Jared is also one of the most famous architects in the country and she wants him to see her work.
The deeper story is the two hundred year old "Ghost" that lives in the house, Caleb Kingsley. It appears that only the boy decendants of Caleb are the ones to see him and as it turns out maybe Alix does as well. Valentina is the long lost love of Caleb. If this is hard to follow, it only gets worse. There are many people in this story and many storylines.
If you like this author, then you will like this book. It is a love story as well and it will touch your heart. Again, I do not think it is nearly as good as some of her earlier books. Three and half stars.
